Selling a home? Get a free home value report
At the beginning of each year, ALL Georgia Residents, living in their primary residence on or before January 1st, have an opportunity to file a homestead exemption for a tax break.
Whether you are a first-time home owner or well into your golden years, everyone has the opportunity for some kind of break on their property taxes—but it’s up to you to file.
Seniors may save 40% (Senior School Tax Exemption) if they meet the minimum age prerequisite, based on their County. Check out your county’s website, linked below, to determine the level of savings!
Learn more about what your county requires for the homestead exemption here. Depending on your county, you have until April 1st to file. We have included most of the Metro Atlanta County Websites, phone numbers and whether you will be able to file on-line or if they prefer you visit in-person.
Here’s what you’ll need: Your closing statement to determine your closing date on the home. If you’d like help, just call us or contact your closing attorney. If you didn’t close on a home in 2017 but still need to file for tax savings, GO FOR IT! Get that filing done so you can move forward with a tax break.
If you were a new home owner in 2017, we’ll be sending you a letter with more information about the homestead exemption too. In the meantime, give us a call, text or email with any questions! We’ll be happy to help!
